About synchronizing with a Palm organizer

If you own a 3Com Palm connected organizer, you can share or synchronize items between Microsoft Outlook Express and your Palm organizer. When you synchronize, Outlook Express copies the contents of your address book to and from your Palm organizer.

When you set up Outlook Express to share information with a Palm organizer, you can specify which information you want to synchronize. For example, you can choose which synchronization method you want to use and which contact information you want to transfer.

When you synchronize address books, Outlook Express matches corresponding fields in the two programs, even if the fields are named differently. For example, Outlook Express synchronizes the field �Job Title� with the Palm organizer field "Title." If Outlook Express is unable to find a corresponding field, it preserves the data by placing it in an unused custom field. If you use custom fields in either address book, you can assign a custom field in one address book to a corresponding field in the other address book.

Set up Outlook Express for synchronization with a Palm organizer

On the File menu, click Palm Sync Setup.
Under General Options, select the Enable Palm Synchronization check box.
On the General and Address Book tabs, select the options you want.


	To assign custom fields in Microsoft Outlook Express to custom fields in your Palm organizer, click the Address Book tab, and then click Click here for custom field options.

Connect the 3Com Palm organizer cradle to your computer.
See your Palm organizer documentation for instructions.
Place the Palm organizer in the cradle.
Press the Hotsync button on the cradle.
